The story of Durham Coins begins with a deep seated interest in British History and the history of an Imperial past. That love of history led to a fascination with the coins and currency of Britain and its colonial dominions. We specialise in the purchase and sale of British pre-decimal coins. Our personal collection (NGC - British Raj Collection) focuses on VIP, Matte and Pattern Proof crowns.
In numismatics one is always learning every single day, discovering new variants, digging into the minutiae of mintage figures, strikings and errors. This is why the hobby is so rewarding. Pair with that perhaps the friendliest community one could be a part of and numismatics becomes such an obvious choice for many. We chose to base ourselves in the Land of the Prince Bishops due to the incredible history it has in numismatic history, having been the site of the Durham Mint at Moneyers Garth on Palace Green, a short walk from our shop.
Numismatics has seen a mass influx of new collectors in the past decade with more and more people being drawn in following the successes of modern coin releases and the stratospheric profits being made on coins such as Una and the Lion and The Three Graces. Many see coins as a safe place to store their money, others simply collect for fun, whether an investor or collector we have something for everyone.
The wealth of information available has meant that there has never been a better time to get involved with numismatics.
